Passage: The Power of Metaphor
Passage is an interactive metaphor for life and relationships. This little free game has you walking down a narrow path. In front of you, everything is hazy, and there is little behind you. You can walk forward and explore unseen parts of the world, encountering obstacles and walls along the way. As you progress, you collect various chests that give you rewards. However, as your character ages, you notice that more of your path is behind you than there is in front, until eventually, you die.
One twist in all this is that you can meet a partner along the way. Being partnered makes the journey less lonely and allows you to find bigger rewards. However, there is a trade-off. The journey becomes slower and less nimble, and you must find new ways to make progress. Additionally, there is the possibility of your partner dying, plunging you into a strange loneliness.
Despite its low-res graphics, Passage delivers emotional power. It explores the true trade-offs of relationships, forcing you to consider the benefits and inconveniences that come with them.
