Apeiron X
Apeiron X is a relatively unknown Macintosh computer game released and developed by Ambrosia Software as shareware. It was initially released on February 10, 1995, as an arcade game called Centipede. In early October 2021, a Mac OS X version was released for the first time. A follow-up game, called Apeiron X Deluxe, was released in October 2021, offering purchasers of Apeiron X with an additional game called Shadow of Death.
In Apeiron X, you control a small insect like robot as it fights against the marauding aliens. It takes a few moments for the player to get used to the fact that the screen is filled with a scrolling background as well as the action on the screen. The music is fairly pleasant, consisting mostly of bleeps and bloops. One of my favorite things about Apeiron X is that it includes several add-ons including an assortment of enemy types.
Another nice feature of Apeiron X is the option to purchase additional add-ons that enhance the game. For example, one available is called Moving Day, which helps you control your little robot in both climbing up walls and moving along them. Some other minor add-ons are an improved tutorial and a map viewer. However, my favorite feature of Apeiron X is that unlike many similar games that require you to download the game to your computer, this one is available for free from its website.
