Troubleshooting and Fixing CurrPorts
CurrPorts tool is a very simple and easy-to-use Windows utility for monitoring the open TCP/UDP ports on your computer. Every time you connect to a new device such as a printer or a modem, Windows will open one or more ports on your PC, depending on which type of device it is. However, not every port is used regularly by Windows. If you notice that some of your ports are being used non-stop by your system, you should try using a tool such as CurrPorts to monitor the activity on these ports. With this software, you can quickly identify which ports are being used unceasingly by your system, and then you can close these ports so that they won't cause further damage to your operating system.
The first section of CurrPorts interface has an "Open / Save" option which allows you to open a new connection while simultaneously saving the current connection state. You can see the list of all open TCP/UDP ports in your desktop as well. For each port listed in the list, a detailed description of the function of that port is displayed, which includes the method by which the connection was opened, the current time that the connection is open, the executable files that are used for connection setup, the login name of your network (or user), and an encryption option. If a port is not yet open, a question box will be displayed asking you whether to close the connection. You can choose "Yes" to close the port; otherwise, you will be prompted for an administrator password.
If none of these methods to help you get rid of an error that is displayed while starting Windows, the most common problem is missing drivers. If this is the case, then you need to download a device driver update, which can be done by clicking on" Update Driver" tab in the "Control Panel" window. To get rid of a specific device driver, click on the corresponding "Driver Updates" tab, which will be shown in a list in the same way as described above.
