Free VPN service for Windows

Atlas VPN for Windows is a free virtual private network service (VPN) that lets you connect your devices securely to the web. It lets you access restricted websites based on specific locations and improves your security. In the first case, it disguises your actual IP (Internet Protocol) address so you can appear to be in a different location. It protects your data by creating what is, in effect, a private tunnel through which your internet traffic is routed.

There are many great VPN options on the market, so you may also want to consider and Betternet.

WireGuard is an open-source VPN protocol that provides a private tunnel for your internet traffic; it’s a part of Atlas VPN. Since it's a light piece of software, it keeps your browsing fast and secures your traffic.

It's important to note that WireGuard protocol doesn't use AES-256 encryption, so there are some doubts concerning its efficacy.

Data Breach Monitor

In addition to protecting your internet traffic and your online identity, Atlas VPN comes with a built-in feature that scans online databases for evidence that your data has been leaked. This can include usernames, passwords and email addresses. It notifies you if it detects any cases where your information has been leaked. Then, you can take steps to improve the security of the relevant account.

Tracker Blocker

Many companies use trackers to understand users' online activity for marketing purposes. They can then serve up ads that relate to the websites you've previously visited. As well as privacy concerns, ads use system resources that can open on web pages, which can slow down your browsing experience.

Atlas VPN has a built-in tracker blocker to get rid of the problem of third-party tracking and others selling your browsing info.

Atlas VPN offers a free VPN version that you can use for the basic tools. Free trials usually offer a limited sample of the VPN's features, so they don't allow you to make a fully-informed decision before buying them.

On the other hand, Atlas VPN also has monthly, annual and three-year subscription options, with each one carrying a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can use it to its fullest extent with zero financial risk.

Our Take

Compared to other VPN services, Atlas VPN falls short on security because it doesn’t use AES-256 encryption. While the data-leak protection is a helpful feature, it's something that's already being built into some modern browsers such as Microsoft Edge.

Like any other VPN service, Atlas VPN gives you unlimited access online, but in our view, it's not one of the better options, even compared to some of the free alternatives.
