Free universal mod loader
MelonLoader is the world's first free universal Windows mod loader for all major games. MelonLoader allows you to install mods directly from other users. This ensures that your game is always up-to-date with the best patches available. It also ensures you’re secure against viruses or malicious software.
MelonLoader can detect mods as they download and install to check if they're unique. This enables users to avoid any late-game bugs or save incompatibilities caused by information conflicts. This can include compatibility problems with other mods of the same type. If you're interested in similar mod loaders, you can also try Monke Mod Manager or Vortex: mod manager.
Features
MelonLoader offers several compelling features that make it a preferred mod loader for Unity games:
- Support for IL2CPP and Mono: These scripting backends are pivotal for developing cross-platform applications in Unity, allowing MelonLoader to function across a wide range of games.
- Community Support: It gains significant backing from modding communities, providing users with additional resources and support.
- Compact Size: The tool is designed to be lightweight, ensuring minimal storage space is required.
- Built-in Debugger: This feature allows users to tweak and modify game content directly within the application.
- User Interface Customization: Users can alter the interface or apply different themes according to their preferences.
- Compatibility: MelonLoader works with games on various platforms, including Steam and Epic Games, although it is recommended to use it with single-player games to avoid potential bans.
Simplified creation of modding tools
MelonLoader allows you to create a mod for your game with minimal effort. The API is designed to be as flexible as possible so you can create the exact kind of mod you want. Modding tools are a critical part of the game development process, especially for those working on Unity games.
Whether you're trying to create your levels or just want to make minor tweaks, modding APIs can help streamline your modding process and get your work done faster, which is why MelonLoader is so good.
The great thing about MelonLoader is it doesn't matter what type of asset you’re working with. You can do everything within the editor and export them into their respective formats. It also has an intuitive interface that makes it easy to navigate.
Free to use
MelonLoader is 100% free, open-source, and easy to use. You don't need anything other than Unity (and a text editor for mod debugging) to create mods for it! In addition to these advantages, MelonLoader is also very powerful and flexible, making it suitable for almost any mod. You’ll feel the power of the app at your fingertips with the fine controls and customisation options.
System requirements
To ensure smooth operation, MelonLoader has specific system requirements:
- .NET Framework: Version 4.8 Runtime must be installed to run the Automated Installer and MelonLoader.
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable: Versions from 2015-2019 for both 64-bit and 32-bit games are necessary.
- .NET Desktop Runtime: For Il2Cpp games, dotnet 6.0 is required, with either the x64 or x86 versions depending on the game's architecture.
How do I delete the melon loader?
If you decide to remove MelonLoader from your computer, make sure you close the game first. Then, go to the game’s installation folder and delete the version.dll and dobby.dll files. You should also remove the MelonLoader folder from the game’s installation directory.
Where do I put Melon Loader mods?
To install mods using MelonLoader, drag the .dll file to the Mods folder in the game’s directory. For example, the path might be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Spin Rhythm\Mods. After that, just start the game like you usually would, and MelonLoader will take care of the rest.
It’s been designed to be simple to use and completely self-contained. You don't need to download or install any external plugins or libraries. Furthermore, it doesn't need any background server to function (though you can set one up if you want).
