World of Vasnar is a free mod by Ryndill_Blackfyre for the strategy RPG Mount & Blade: Warband. Warband is an update of the original Mount & Blade, with more factions and gameplay elements. In Mount & Blade: Warband, your character’s free to develop in its war-torn, medievalesque world by becoming a noble and holding lands.
Like other strategy RPGs such as Immortal Saga, players roam around a 3D map. In this case, the battles are in 3D environments with the player commanding large armies. World of Vasnar gives Mount & Blade: Warband a complete makeover, with the action based in 1200 Hispania.
Magic arrives at Warband
Even though Warband is set in a fictional land, almost everything is true-to-life. Unlike many other games in this genre, there are no dragons or wizard towers. However, in World of Vasnar, magic arrives to make things more interesting.
There are magical items with some special effects, including the option to play as a vampire. There are also magic spells such as fireballs, restoring HP (health points), and summoning creatures. There are also undead armies, demon worshippers, necromancers, and other new types of characters to fit the new magical roles. While none of this changes the game a great deal, it’s a welcome addition for anyone who’s tried it all in the base game.
Amazing new world
Aside from the significant changes, there’s a new world with nine playable factions, and a new map with interesting scenarios, some of which are way creepier than the original game. Of course, there are also new graphics for all the units, new items, and more.
There are unique unit trees, mythical beasts such as gryphons and pirate vampires, which all bear witness to a tremendous amount of creativity. Despite all this diversity, it all fits somehow.
Innovative mod that completely changes the game
World of Vasnar is a new experience for Mount & Blade: Warband. For anyone wondering what Warband would look like with magic in it, this is as close as it gets while maintaining the same core principles. It’s no generic fantasy world either: the setting, creatures and factions are intriguing.
This mod is well-polished, and offers new possibilities with great replayability thanks to the different factions you can play with. It changes the original game in such a way that it’s almost an expansion or a new version altogether. Each individual element contributes to the overall experience, so there’s every reason to give it a go.
