Fast Font Preview, or Fast Font Save, is the new, improved way to go about viewing fonts online in Microsoft Word. What has changed? Actually quite a bit, but here's the basic rundown: Microsoft Word has always been able to save and open a variety of different font files, such as Postscript, PDF, EPS and many others. The new Fast Font Preview, available from Microsoft Works, is essentially a "word-for-word" version of a downloaded font - saving you time, and sometimes even saving money.
So, what's so great about this new feature? Well, for one thing it's now possible to download fonts directly from Microsoft Works, without ever having to go through the complicated process of searching for, downloading and installing them on your PC. It's true that Microsoft doesn't provide a whole lot of fonts out there for free on its web site, but they do have one available - Fast Font Preview. It's a freeware font manager for windows. It is available both as a "manual" application which walk you through the entire process of extracting and saving fonts, as well as a "lightweight" toolbar that let you customize the way that Fast Font Preview looks and works.
In addition to being able to download and save fonts directly from Microsoft Works, you can also use the Fast Font Preview installed fonts utility to view the fonts on any other computer by right-clicking on the font file, then clicking "download" or "save as". This downloads the font file to your computer's hard drive, then enables you to view the font file on your computer by opening up the appropriate icon on your computer (usually a plus sign). If you have multiple computers that use the same Windows Operating System, you can save downloaded fonts across all your computers by using the Fast Font Preview downloaded font utility. It is an extremely easy way to optimize your computer's performance.
