What is an Eyedropper?

An eyedropper, also called a droptap pipette, or eye dropper, is an instrument used to transport small amounts of liquids directly to the eye from a different part of the body. They're used in the medical laboratory and to dispense smaller amounts of eye drug medications. A common use has been for patients with eye problems to be given eye drops directly into their eyes. Droppers have also been used in sports medicine, to administer saline drops to athletes before events, and even to children to spray and rub their eyes. Droppers are available in various sizes and in various designs to address specific needs.

An eyedropper has several parts. The top, called the piston, has a plunger that holds a dropper bottle. The two arms on the top are called the tube and the holder. The holder has a cylindrical piece with a piston on one end that pushes the dropper bottle up through the tube on the top of the holder. There is also a plastic piece on the bottom called the handle, which allows you to put the Eyedropper in a carrying case.

To use an Eyedropper you simply look at the sample colors on the screen, choose the one you want to have put into your eye and push the "pip" (the plunger) down into your eye, keeping your hands steady on the Eyedropper itself. It's as easy as that! Once you've placed your chosen sample into your eye, it will quickly dispense the color exactly where you need it. The color intensity is designed so that the colors are easily absorbed without loss of clarity.
