A music streaming app
Gaana is a music app that specialises in the Indian music scene, offering an alternative for more mainstream choices. It’s 100% free to download and use on your PC or mobile.
A dedicated audio streaming service
There are many music streaming apps and services out there, both free and paid. However, most of them list popular songs from English-speaking areas, with few available to cover niches.
Some notable titles cater to that need, including Palco MP3 for Brazilian indie artists and Wynk with its variety of selection. Gaana is another such app that represents a one-stop-shop for all genres of Indian music.
Good UI
This app is for Windows 10, although it runs on Windows 8, Android, and iOS devices as well. The interface is quite similar across devices, with the selection divided into cultural subcategories.
This division is necessary because Gaana covers over 10 million songs at the moment. The categories you'll find include Telugu, Punjabi, Bengali, and Hindi. You can use the app both inside and outside India, although only Indian users can access international tunes.
You can also browse using the name of the artist, group, or album, as well as the release date.
Wide music selection
You can also access Radio Mirchi channels through Gaana. Moreover, there are dedicated playlists per genre and personal preference, since, individual users upload to the app in most cases.
Finally, you can download music using this app for free, and synchronise your devices as you launch a download, too, on up to five devices.
When it comes to security, this app did go through some significant leaks, but the developer came through to guarantee that personal data is now safe with Gaana.
Good but not excellent
Gaana is a promising app, with the number of songs available growing daily and dedicated playlists sprouting left and right. It’s a shame that it stopped seeing updates long ago. There are definitely better music apps, even for Indian music lovers (especially Raaga) but this app is, nonetheless, an interesting alternative.
