YouTube Go is a subsidiary application of YouTube. It is a video streaming application that allows viewers to watch videos with 3G or 2G connection. You can search for videos, receive video recommendations, and interact with other users while maintaining low data usage. You can also download videos within the platform for offline consumption. Video resolutions can range from 144p to 360p, but it is up to you which video resolution you want to download. The video-sharing tech giant first launched YouTube Go in India. Now, it is available in the Google Playstore in over 130 countries. Mobile users can install YouTube Go on any Android device running Android 4.2 and up.
Viewing capabilities
YouTube Go is a lite version of the official YouTube application. You can use it to save memory and/or watch videos in areas with unstable internet connectivity. You can sign in to YouTube Go using the same Google account you use in your main YouTube channel. This will allow the application to recommend channels and videos based on your subscriptions, viewing history, and your region.
The YouTube application plays videos while you’re scrolling through your feed. The same can be done on YouTube go; you can see the preview of the video on your main feed. The quick preview function allows you to view the first few minutes of the video without sound. The video will still appear in your history, but it will not be counted as a view for the video.
You can also view videos without an internet connection. YouTube videos that have been saved for offline playback allows you to watch videos on long haul flights, road trips, and other low signal areas. It’s important to note that not all videos can be saved; content creators must enable their videos for offline playback. In addition to saving videos in WiFi-enabled areas, you can download using your mobile data.
Sharing features
YouTube Go goes beyond sharing videos on social media platforms. It allows you to share saved videos to nearby YouTube Go users. This means both the sender and the receiver must have the YouTube Go app installed on their Android phone. There is no limit to the number of videos you can share at a time, and it does not require mobile data or internet connection. It uses WiFi Direct and Bluetooth to complete the data transfer; however, sharing videos with a new receiver requires a mandatory internet check.
Lightweight streaming platform
YouTube Go APK is only 9.9 MB, making it a compact alternative to the official YouTube Android app. It allows you to play videos at a reasonable resolution - 144p to 360p - with 2G and 3G connectivity. You will have to forgo commenting on videos and sharing content to your social media channels when using YouTube Go. Other than these features, this app has the same viewing capabilities as the main application. YouTube Go is a suitable application for avid viewers that want real-time notifications from the channels they subscribe to anywhere, anytime.
