Image Tuner Free is able to perform batch resizing, conversions, renaming and watermarking on your images, quickly and easily. The app has been designed with simplicity in mind. It is a small, lightweight app that has a simple interface, which is uncluttered and easy to use. Image Tuner Free supports drag-and-drop functionality, so all your images, or folders containing them, can be dragged into the left pane, and then can be previewed by highlighting them. As soon as you have selected all the images you need, simply choose the output options in the right pane. If you do get stuck, it comes with a built-in Help file that will cover any questions you may have. The app comes with a number of resizing profiles for popular social media websites such as Facebook or devices such as Apple’s iPhone. You can also set sizes for your images, if you wish. Image Tuner Free supports conversion to .JPG, .PNG, .BMP, .GIF or .TIF, and you can choose the quality of the image conversion you require as well. Overall, Image Tuner Free is a really neat little app that can perform a number of image manipulation tasks. The only downside we could find, is that it doesn't appear to have any algorithms for enlarging pictures whilst maintaining high quality. That having been said, the number of other features outweighs any tools that are lacking in this free software. With batch conversion support and the ability to add and edit watermarks, Image Tuner Free is a great app to have for those tedious re-sizing jobs.

FotoMix is a simple and lightweight photo editor that allows you to add people from one picture onto another picture or background in a manner similar to that of Photoshop. FotoMix has a standard user interface that is built around an explorer type framework. FotoMix is divided into five tabs; Background, Foreground, Composition, Touch Up and Finish. There are some Tooltips located at the bottom of the window, which guide you as you navigate the app. It really is very easy to use. Overall, FotoMix is a simple tool for photo composition, which does not require a great deal of skill. The downside is that because of the simplicity of the app, the controls appear outdated and the more advanced user may find the app quite limited.

When you run the app, you are presented with two options in the main window; 'Repair JPEG files', and 'Extract thumbnails'. If you choose to repair JPEG files, the process can take some time, depending upon the number of images and the degree of damage to them. Once completed, the repaired images are displayed in a separate window, to be previewed and saved accordingly. The second option is a great feature when a large number of corrupted files need to be recovered, as viewing thumbnails helps to spot which of the images should be recovered and which can be discarded. Overall, Stellar Photo Repair is a lightweight app that consumes a small amount of system resources. It is very easy to use and has an intuitive interface that has a simple, straightforward design, which is easy to navigate. *Note: This version of Stellar Photo Repair is capable of recovering corrupt JPEG files, but the recovered images have an embedded watermark. The registered version will recover your images without the watermark.

That being said, the interface is based on a standard explorer frame, and if all you need is basic functionality, then Microsoft Photo Story would be great for your needs. You cannot, however, burn your work to DVD. Which is quite disappointing.
