Simplenote is an easy-to-use tool that has been designed for everyone, from individuals to freelancers and SMB’s. It is a minimalist note taking tool and web service, which prioritizes elegant functionality over unnecessary features.
DashboardThe Simplenote Dashboard looks crisp, neat and clean and offers you all the core note features in a straightforward manner. The main view has been designed around a two column page. The left hand side contains a note list and the right hand side contains the note content. The default view is list, however, if you like you can alter this to be arranged by tags. To create a note, simply click on the Plus button on the upper toolbar to create it.
SharingSharing is good for everyone, and Simplenote allows you to share your notes in numerous ways. The triple dot button in the main interface lets you share notes via email, publishing, adding a collaborator and printing.
If you publish a note, you will then make it available to anyone with a specifically created link. You can share that link with others and they can just read it.
The next sharing option enables editing by other users. When you press the ‘Share’ option to learn more, this is found under the publish option. This means, you can share a note with someone by adding their email address as note tags. As soon as you ‘tag’ other people by their email addresses, they will then receive a notification email and a link to that note. Usefully, when a users visits that link, it will open the note, and they can edit it, even if they do not have a Simplenote account. However, if they do have Simplenote account, the user is able to edit and sync the note to their own accounts.
PricingSimplenote uses a freemium subscription pricing model, with an available premium account. The premium account is priced at $20 per year. For this you can receive unlimited access via third party apps and you can also have more backup versions of your notes.
Bottom LineOf the many available note taking tools on the market, Simplenote is one of the best due to it’s ease of use and, well, ‘simple’ features. You can access your notes everywhere on all your devices, due to Simplenote’s synchronization tools . Apart from tagging notes and searching them, there are no advanced organization tools to speak of. Simplenote, instead, focuses on speed and simplicity of use. Supported devices include: Android, iOS, Windows, and a Web-based service.
