World of Goo is an arcade-style puzzle game developed and released by independent game designer 2D Boy. The game is available on Microsoft Windows, Wii, and Nintendo Wii consoles as well as other mobile devices. The game was originally released on Windows but has now been released for the other major operating systems including Mac, Linux, and Android. A sequel, titled World of Goo 2, was released in March 2021 and received positive reviews from critics and players. A free printable version of the game can be found on the official homepage.
The story of the game involves a boy named Alex who lives in an alien planet called Rydor. One day, he ventures into the center of this planet where he meets and befriends an adorable little blue creature who bears a resemblance to a crab - the same creature that represents the main character of the game, which is called Pliskin. After some time spent befriending the creature and learning its powers, Alex needs to go back to his home to retrieve important data that will help him win the battle against his evil stepmother and prevent the destruction of his home planet. To do this, he must put together several colorful tools that include his trusty goo.
The game consists of five chapters which each are composed of five balls. Each chapter consists of four unique stages only, and there are also secret areas which can only be accessed by using certain colored goo objects. These goo objects are collected by simply clicking on them. The objective of the game is to make the objects line up correctly with one another in order to form the square or circle where the object piece sits. If more than one piece doesn't line up, it will automatically cause a wrong shape to be created which makes the next piece become stationary, and so on. The game ends when all the pieces are in the right positions to form an object.
