RegEx Extractor: Searching via regular expressions
RegEx Extractor is a free utility tool for Windows by developer Vovsoft. It is a program that can be used to extract information from plain text or log files using regular expressions, a sequence of characters that is commonly used to specify a search pattern. RegEx Extractor is often used in search queries like with Google Search, but it can also be utilized with word processors or text editors, such as Notepad++ and the like. It's available either as an installable program or a portable utility that can be copied to USB drives.
A regular expression, or regex, is a set of characters used to find and locate a specific string or pattern in a piece of text, code, or algorithm. While it's a handy tool that can be adapted to pretty much any text-based search query, using it can be tricky. That is why tools like RegEx Extractor have been developed to allow even novice users to take advantage of this search method.
This program comes with a simple user interface that will let you scan entire folders or specific files from the Directory Scan or File List tabs, respectively, as well as indicate a file mask if you want. You can also set rules based on parameters, such as Starts with, Contains, and Ends with. Once all configured, press the Start button to begin the search.
Refer to the Files and Matched columns on the bottom half of the screen for a list of scanned files found matches. There is also a handy Remove Duplicates option for any that the tool may find. Despite being easy to use, it's still a tool that is best used by experienced and advanced users, especially when it comes to setting specific search rules.
If you often deal with text and logs and you need a way to find specific information, then RegEx Extractor might be able to help you out. It's based on the popular and commonly used regular expressions search method and it works quite well. It even offers you plenty of options for setting rules and conditions. Recommended.
