One Night at Flumpty's
The Red Man is a minor character in the acclaimed comedy One Night at Flumpty's, which was written and directed by David Fincher. The Red Man first appears as a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the theater. He has a penchant for throwing objects at people, and he attacks Jonochrome the first night he meets him. The movie starts with Jonochrome being scared after being mugged, so he hides in an alley.
Jonochrome eventually becomes a marksman and kills several muggers, but before he can kill anyone else he gets shot in the leg by a homeless man who finds him hiding in the bushes. In order to save his life, Jonochrome must return to the Red Man's hideout and perform one night a week in the theater with five other freaks. Five nights at a time, the group will be subjected to a series of murders, robberies, and hallucinations. The storyline revolves around the five characters that make up Jonochrome: Flo, Charmaine, Amy, Dottie, and Tommy. With each night a new victim is found and Jonochrome must use his powers of illusion along with his sharp mind in order to escape the clutches of the Red Man.
One Night at Flumpty's takes place in a colorful world populated by creatures called Flumptons. These creatures are usually portrayed as evil and malevolent, but in truth they serve a very important purpose in the city of Gluckstadt. They are called on to help the city flush out sewer blocks, clean up abandoned sewage pipes, and remove rubbish from the streets. The play One Night at Flumpty's was later made into a full-length feature film of the same name and starred Michael Caine.
