Metapad for Windows

Metapad (pronounced: "Mee-PAD") is an open source text editor for Microsoft Windows, originally developed by Alexander Davidson as part of a study at Stanford University in 2021. The aim of Metapad has been to provide a close replacement to Notepad on Microsoft Windows. Metapad has many similarities to Notepad, such as the word processor's option to not only edit text, but also to add files and create subfolders. Unlike Notepad, though, Metapad has many additional features that make it superior to the traditional text editors. The primary differences between Metapad and other text editors are the features included in its setup menu, which are quite extensive, and the fact that it can be run directly from Microsoft's desktop.

A standard feature of most advanced text editors is the built-in file browser. Notepad is equipped with such a feature, which makes it quite useful. However, with a file browser, you generally need to go out of the toolbar to access all the files that you have opened. With a Metapad, you can click on a file and automatically open it in the Metapad's built-in browser, saving you both time and headache.

Another important feature of metapad, which most users will find very useful, is the built-in password manager. Metapad keeps a log of your passwords, which means that should you forget your password, you won't have to worry about remembering it; rather, the password manager feature will help you to create a completely new password, making it impossible to use the password you already have. This is one of the best and most useful features of a text editor, which makes it a better choice than say a computer with no mouse or trackball.
