A Sonic Runners Review
Sonic Runners is a new side-scrolling, time-advance endless mobile running game in the successful Sonic the Hedgehog series for iOS and Android. It was developed by Sonic Team for its first ever mobile game and released by Sega as its first official Sonic game exclusive to mobile phones. I have to say that while it's a very fast paced game with lots of action, it doesn't live up to the high standards of the other games in the Sonic series. It feels like an iPhone and Android port of the PS2 classic Sonic the Hedgehog, but it just doesn't have the same level of quality that the other games have.
For anyone who didn't know, Sonic Runners is a "game within a game" which means you can not only play as Sonic the Hedgehog, but collect various different partners (like Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Saturn), fight against the Chao warriors (basically evil robots who shoot at you) and complete the different stages and mini-games within the game. Each stage is designed to play out in new ways, as per the story and theme of the game, and that's why there are so many different elements in each level. However, while it's nice having all these different things to keep you busy, it can get a little bit boring after a while. It would be nice if the stages were designed more to keep you entertained rather than having you complete every task within the game like in many modern games.
In short, Sonic Runners is a nice side-scrolling, time-advance, platform video game with some nice designs. While it's probably not going to be a modern day super Mario or Zelda, it does have its fair share of fans, and will most likely be a winner with kids and teens. It's not going to win many awards or become a runaway hit like Sonic the Hedgehog was when it first came out, but it will most likely find enough fans to make a nice profit for Sega. And kids and teens will love it too, which is always a good thing.
