Screenshots
Nightlight is a system program that makes it easy for users to switch between light and dark modes on their Windows computers. This tool is great for anyone who wants to change their screen’s appearance to suit the time of day or reduce eye strain. Interestingly, Nightlight makes it very easy for users to switch their themes from dark to light.
How to use Nightlight
Using Nightlight is simple:
- Switch Modes: Click on the Nightlight icon to switch between light and dark. This affects your applications and the look of Windows File Explorer.
- More Options: Right-click on the Nightlight icon to see more settings. This is where you can adjust how Nightlight works.
Settings
Setting up Nightlight is straightforward:
- Basic Setting: The “Apps, Explorer, System” option is on by default. This means your main apps and system screens will change with the theme.
- Add More: You can turn on the “Start Menu & Taskbar” option. This will make sure your Start Menu and Taskbar also change when you switch themes.
Tips for Better Use
For a better experience, you can link Nightlight with other apps:
- VS Code: Change themes easily with an added extension.
- Google Chrome: Use the Dark Reader extension to sync your browser’s theme with your system.
- GitHub: See GitHub in your chosen theme.
Linking these apps helps keep your workspace consistent and comfortable.
Can my PC run Nightlight?
Nightlight works best on newer computers, but you should check if it fits your system:
- System Needs: Nightlight needs Windows 10, specifically versions after December 16, 2015.
This covers many updates and more apps that support dark mode.
How to Check If It Works
To see if Nightlight will work on your computer, do the following:
- Step 1: Open the Run dialog by searching for "Run" in your start menu or pressing "Windows" and "R" together.
- Step 2: Type regedit in the Run dialog to open the Registry Editor.
- Step 3: Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize. If you see AppsUseLightTheme and SystemUsesLightTheme, your PC is compatible with Nightlight.
This check helps you make sure that Nightlight can run smoothly on your computer, making your screen easier on the eyes, whether you’re working late or just browsing.
