Meshmixer is a mesh editing and modification program designed to work primarily with polygonal mesh models in formats such as STL, OBJ, and PLY. It supports direct mesh manipulation, automated mesh repair functions, mesh optimization routines, and model preparation features. 

Meshmixer employs a selection-based editing approach in which operations are applied to surface regions, volumes, or entire models. It includes tools for mesh reconstruction, surface smoothing, solid conversion, and physical stability analysis. It also integrates layout and alignment features for arranging multiple models within a workspace. The program operates offline and works as a standalone executable without requiring additional plug-ins.

Meshmixer supports mesh-level modifications using sculpting, deformation, and remeshing techniques. Sculpting tools modify vertex and surface topology in real time, while remeshing reorganizes polygon distribution to achieve more uniform geometry. Convert-to-solid operations generate manifold solids from scanned or imported surfaces, which can be further analyzed for thickness consistency. The software’s selection system includes surface brushing, lasso selection, and boundary constraint tools to isolate geometric regions with precision.

Sculpt, cut, solidify

The program incorporates boolean, plane cut, and surface offset functions that enable structural reconfiguration of models. However, it lacks parametric dimensioning or constraint modeling. Offset surfaces create internal or external shells, supporting hollowing workflows. Support structure generation uses branching geometry designed for additive manufacturing and can be automatically calculated based on surface orientation. Automatic orientation and stability analysis determine model placement on build platforms.

It integrates pattern and lattice generation, allowing interior or exterior surfaces to be replaced with repeating structural elements. Channeling and tube creation tools form internal path networks suitable for fluid routing or weight reduction designs. Alignment features match multiple meshes using pivot-based references. Layout and packing tools arrange multiple bodies in a shared volume. Repair tools perform hole filling, bridging, and boundary stitching to restore printable geometry without manual patching.

Meshmixer operates as a standalone mesh processing system with tools for editing, repairing, analyzing, and restructuring polygonal meshes. It supports solid conversion, topological editing, boolean modification, and structural generation workflows relevant to 3D printing preparation. The program works with standard mesh formats without requiring additional software dependencies. Its feature set emphasizes mesh-level modification and reconstruction but does not include full parametric modeling or CAD constraint systems.
