Highlights is an open and free source code editor for Windows released by Andre-Simon Czyzewski for Microsoft. Highlights are able to read and edit several different document formats including PostScript, HTML, EPUB and several proprietary formats. Highlights allows users to manipulate the format of the document and apply visual indicators. This includes automatically formatting tables, inserting metadata (bookmarks), searching through attachments, renaming documents and searching within multiple documents. Highlights offers many advanced features that make document manipulation and editing fast and simple.
highlights comes with two different versions, the Professional and the Lite version. The Professional version is designed to be used by technical writers and artists whereas the Lite version is designed for user use. The Professional version has more advanced features which include syntax highlighting and code completion, visual indicators, full Unicode support, search and replace functions, auto indentation, icon support and flexible matching style sheets. The Lite version can be used by novice users and provides basic functionality such as formatting tables, renaming documents and searching for documents within a specific extension. Both the versions have also been extended to support La Tex and Math Pad syntax highlighting.
The most recent release of Highlight which came out with the Windows operating system vista provides better user experience than previous versions. This new version provides better syntax highlighting and improved visual output with various different levels of coloured output. Highlight accepts multiple languages such as German, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese and is able to open and view a wide range of document formats such as PostScript, PDF, HTML, LaTex, Postscript, and Math Pad. The Windows version has an improved and faster feature set with the latest technology being integrated such as:
