Dia Diagram Editor is an open-source visual-editing application, which can be used to draw numerous different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape. Overall Dia Diagram Editor has a clean interface, extensive language support and a small footprint. It is relatively easy to use and you can export diagrams with a number of image formats, including Microsoft's premium visual-editing application, Visio.
