Passing By is a free side-scrolling puzzle platform game on Windows that forms part of the itch.io lineup with titles like Pine Creek, Metamorphosis, and The Worm Game. You’ll travel exciting locations in the sky among floating islands in your flying ship. There are plenty of clues to follow and secrets to uncover within an enjoyable storyline.
There are plenty of NPCs for players to meet along the way with whom you need to develop friendships. The game is short with only eight levels, but you’ll enjoy exploring the interesting biomes. You’ll need to solve an island’s puzzles before you can proceed to the next level.
Puzzles and secrets
The most exciting aspect of Passing By is the puzzle element. The entire island holds secrets you need to solve, giving you a specific level of progression. There’s a beautiful musical score in the background to accompany you on your journey.
2D graphics
Each of the eight locations has stunning 2D visuals. The biomes have different characteristics, each with a specific theme that carries across to the nature of the puzzles. You’ll also meet others along the way with interesting appearances.
Ship customization
You can customize the appearance of your ship and balloon to give you a sense of reward for making it through each level. Unfortunately, it doesn’t add any new features or abilities and is simply for appearance sake.
Various languages
Most games from itch.io focus on the English language, which is also the primary one for Passing By. However, the developers decided to add a few more so that a greater audience of players can enjoy it. The other languages included are Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian and Simplified Chinese.
