Napster recently announced that they have officially ended their mobile service. This was not unexpected since Rhapsody is in the process of building a new service on the same topic. Both companies are valued at over one billion dollars each and are valued at more than ten billion dollars. Napster and Rhapsody will most likely be sold to independent music producers in the future.

With the demise of Napster unereo, users may need to search harder to find a decent music service that offers the variety of content that Napster once offered. With the introduction of the Android mobile operating system, users may have an easier time finding a service provider that offers content that is acceptable to them. Napster and Rhapsody had previously offered free services with Simple Choice subscription plans and could no longer be subscribing to. However, if you already own Napster, you can continue to enjoy using it for a lower price.

The company had previously indicated that they expect to make money from adverts and other revenue opportunities but did not provide any specifics. With the loss of Napster, users will still be able to download music that has been purchased for the fee that the company charges but will not be able to access content for free. It was estimated that the Napster service attracted about two million users worldwide and revenue was about four million a year.
