Directshow Filters and Methods

DirectShow Filters is a form of compression technology designed for the DirectShow protocol. The LEADTOOLS multimedia SDKs offers various components and libraries to build DirectShow software which compress, decompress, stream, encrypt, and process data from various sources. DirectShow offers a large collection of optimized DirectShow filters, however the filters can use and manipulate the same or different non-Leads DirectShow filters, such as: Splitter, compressor/decompressor, and gain, which can be used in conjunction with other types of filters or with regular DirectShow filters. This enables the use of multiple filters on a single stream, which can result in high quality video compression.

There are a number of online tutorials, which can walk users through the basics of DirectShow compression and decompression. However, the most helpful DirectShow tips and instructions are found inside the official documentation and in the "DirectShow" folder which are installed as part of the Windows Vista system. This folder contains all of the DirectShow controls and software, which can be used to control video output and input including: Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player Video, RealTime Video, Media Player QuickTime, Windows Media Playback Experience, Windows Media Server, Windows Media Source, Windows Movie Server, Windows Movie Format, Windows Movie Player Profiler, Windows Media Playlist Engine, Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Presentation Extensions, Windows Presentation Server, Windows Quartz Displays Engine, Windows Real Television Provider, Windows Server, Microsoft Windows Media Player, and Windows Server 2021 R2. DirectShow is a server control application, which allows you to control the DirectShow servers, which can be used by multiple clients for video and audio streams. DirectShow is able to control and synchronize with a wide range of video and audio formats, including Windows AVI, Quicktime, MPEG-2, ASIO, and Windows Media.

These are some of the Directshow filters and methods that can be used to decompress or compress audio streams. The Directshow filter graph manager is a Windows program, which lets you manage a large number of Directshow filters and effects. The program also enables you to use various Directshow compression and decompression methods and to test your Directshow video and audio on a number of systems.
