Free music curation app
Instafest is a free music curation app that lets you create specialised playlists that look like music festival lineups. Essentially, Instafest is an instant virtual music festival in your pocket. All you need to do to get the music curation fun started is log into your Spotify account and then connect Spotify to Instafest. From there, you’ll be able to create amazing playlists as if they were lineups for music festivals.
Instafest is similar to other music apps like Wynk and Google Play Music in that all of these apps let you create specific playlists. However, simply due to the way in which Instafest lets you organise your favourite tracks, it stands in a league of its own. There isn’t really another app available on our website that gives you this kind of niche control over your music playlists.
This web app isn’t for everyone, but it certainly has an interesting approach to playlist organisation. Essentially, Instafest links to your Spotify account to determine which artists you listen to the most. Then, the app will split your most-listened-to artists into three distinct sections. Each section is representative of a single day of a fictional music festival. This is perfect for a party or any other situation where you’ve been given control of the aux cable or Bluetooth speaker.

Customisation
One of the biggest draws of Instafest is how customisable the app is. For instance, when the app selects your favourite artists from Spotify, you can choose whether to select those from the past four weeks, six months, or even all-time. The app also gives you a choice between three specific styles in which to display your music. The three styles are called Mojave Dusk, LA Twilight, and Malibu Sunrise. However, you also have the option to name your music festival anything you’d like.
Drawbacks
With such a niche app, drawbacks aren’t likely to influence users looking for this kind of functionality. However, there are a few to speak of. Instafest requires the acceptance of numerous special permissions. This can be intimidating to newer users, but as it needs access to your Spotify data, it is completely reasonable. The other issue is that you can’t change the positioning of tracks within the curated playlist. The playlist is created by an algorithm and is thus uneditable.
Niche, but worth it
Niche apps are always fun because of the functionality that they add. While not everyone is going to identify with an app like Instafest, it's a brilliant way to automatically organise your favourite music before a party or gathering.
The app draws on your Spotify history, so it’s unlikely that it’ll include music that you don’t like or haven’t listened to before.
