Free Windows Customisation Software

The WindowsFX software is free and allows you to customise and change how the Windows operating system (OS) is experienced. You can change the appearance of the OS by adding additional elements and several other features to the UI. The tool is based on a Linux desktop OS system that employs a KDE Plasma environment.

This software was created by Stardock and is suitable for PCs running Windows 7 and later. There are numerous free Windows customisation apps around, including Mac OS X Lion Icon Pack, Mac OS X Lion Skin Pack, and Mac OS X Theme for Windows.

The software allows you to completely customise the UI by darkening and fading the inactive work screens. When you double-click on the icons, they’re automatically hidden from the desktop. Elements and text labels can be resized with ease. There are 30 additional custom animations that you can add to start menus. Animations have subtypes, and you can open a window and close it with the simple click of a mouse.

There are extensive key features that are available that make your OS unique. The software creates true alpha-blended shadows under each window. The software has the ability to morph windows when maximising or minimising them. Several closing and opening effects are included. You’ll be able to see large icons on the desktop while having normal-sized icons located everywhere else. 

The title bar can be coordinated with different light sources, colourised, and borders can be made unique. You can add more special effects, such as shadows, and windows can be set to your own specifications. 

Making the OS fun

There are various advantages in installing this software, including helping you to coordinate and organise your work more effectively, adding a little of your personal character to your PC with the inclusion of 20 start menu animations, and hiding icons that are always in the way when you don’t really need them. 

This software doesn’t change the Windows OS. It only makes the user experience more fun. Adding a few unique differences and extra effects will take up additional system resources, so it may not be suitable for older PCs. It can be activated easily by downloading the tool and following the installation instructions.
