Tera Online's Future
The new MMORPG Tera the sky will be the limit for this new RPG from Bluehole Studios. Since it's been released so quickly, I have a few questions for the developers about the making of such a fast-paced game with such fantastic visuals and sound. Tera the sky is the limit! Since we already know that Tera is going to be free-to-play, will there be any micro transactions like in some other MMORPGs?
Bluehole Entertainment did not address my major question, however. They did say that, "Tera is all about fast-paced action, intense PvPvE, and deep PvE content with optional shared world PvP." This is a pretty good description of the game and it definitely raises some questions for me. In a traditional mmorpg, combat occurs during random encounters inside large maps with player groups, generally within a large city or other large area. With a mmorpg like Tera, combat usually happens during "encounters" which means, small group combat in huge open spaces.
Since the only combat in tera is through the "combat log", it might make sense that there won't be any micro-transactions, but that would be changing with a free-to-play, true action combat mmo. It sounds like a very big shift for this genre, but it's actually very easy to do in mmorpgs of old. You can send an auto-responder email that brings up the right combat options, so you don't need to go into each specific game and manually select your character. Bluehole plans to have an extremely comprehensive combat system integrated with their free-to-play tera, which will probably be the biggest step forward in online free-to-play MMORPGs since the dawn of the Internet. I hope they succeed, because I really want an online game with true action combat.
