Browsing protection app

K9 Web Protection by Blue Coats is a free filtering programme that blocks harmful elements from being viewed on a computer. It protects you from malicious ads while also being able to cut off access to websites that are deemed inappropriate by parental control, like pornography or gambling websites.

Browsing and controls

K9 has a sharp dog barking alert whenever someone tries to access a suspicious website. The admin can set up which websites are permissible or banned, while also being able to see everything that was accessed through the PC.

The user interface is easy to understand, ensuring that you get the most out of it. If K9 blocks something that you need to access, all you need to do is put in the password to continue onwards.

No longer available

There are a variety of problems, but the first one is that the company no longer supports it. Blue Coats Systems was sold to Symantec, which discontinued K9. This change means you can no longer get a license, which is necessary to run the application.

You're also limited to one user per PC, meaning that you can only have one set of restrictions. More importantly, it slows down browsing while it's operating. If the web protector crashes, you won't be able to access the WiFi until it is working again.

Alternatives

CleanBrowsing is a free parental control software programme that is still supported. It does much the same job as K9 did to protect your browsing from services that might contain adult content. It can only filter on one device unless purchased.

KidLogger is a devastatingly effective web protection service, tracking everything that individuals are doing online. It watches everything the person is browsing, from what they type or screenshot to what they are viewing or saying. All of this comes for free.

Watchful security

Overall, K9 Web Protection isn't bad.  You have great control over what they can access through the computer. However, there are many limitations. As they offer no support, protection will become antiquated quickly. The other options are better choices if you are looking for excellent filtering options.
