Civilization IV is an exciting and complex turn-based strategy PC game about mankind's quest to become a world power. It is one of those rare games that actually manages to combine a good story with excellent graphics. Civilization IV gives you an excellent choice of civilizations, each featuring several unique units, buildings, perks, skills, etc., and is highly replayable thanks to the many scenarios and goals that can be undertaken. The main menu of Civilization IV offers a simple but effective tutorial that guides you through the various aspects of the game as you start out. A helpful tech tree helps you build up your civilization, giving you access to new technologies that can further boost your civilization's chances of success.
Civilization IV is also well balanced, featuring both intriguing visuals and a carefully balanced game plan. Although the single-player campaign is the weakest component of Civilization IV (it doesn't have enough depth to warrant its inclusion as a separate game), it does provide an interesting alternative to the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) that have become more popular recently. Civilization IV features realistic battles against technologically superior opponents that are willing to lay down the fight for survival, if only for a short time. Even when playing with friends, it is easy to see how each civilization can quickly grow in power if you make the right choices in the early game.
Civilization IV has all the best elements of other turn-based strategy games. It is a fine game that you can play by yourself or with friends and has the added advantage of being one of the earliest games to implement the use of real technology in its mechanics. It is also a very good video game which uses a great deal of creativity and scope for future possibilities. What it lacks in graphics, it more than makes up for with superb turn-based strategic gameplay and fantastic audio effects. If you are looking for a good old fashion strategy game that you can play alone or with friends, then Civilization IV: Civilization IV should definitely be on your list.
