3D Computer Chess
Screenshots
Chess Titans is a free-to-play 3D chess simulator for Windows computers. Developed by David Morris, it used to be part of the Microsoft entertainment package. While it no longer comes with Windows after 7, it is still a reliable way to play chess.
Attractive visuals
Even though the game was developed for Vista, the graphics are still superb compared to other games. Titans' 3D design is beautiful, keeping itself up to par with the modern competition.
Titans offers three different themes that aren't particularly special but still make it a bit better for playing. However, the game's development has been discontinued, so you shouldn't expect new improvements to the appearance of the programme.
Good AI competition
This programme plays like any other chess option. It features an excellent AI that has ten levels of difficulty. The first one is perfect for beginners to play against, while the highest level is challenging even for experts.
When you click on a piece on the board, it highlights all the potential moves you can make. You can also play against a live opponent in a specific mode, but unfortunately, there is no online multiplayer. Lastly, the programme saves a record of all your wins and losses.
Other chess games
Jose Chess is another option if you feel the urge to play chess. Unfortunately, the graphics don't even compare to Chess Titan. However, it does offer many technical enhancements for those who understand how to tweak software settings.
War Chess keeps the games' fundamental rules yet it does a good job of putting you in a new setting. There are several different modes of play with specific challenges. The animations are beautiful and unique, but you need to pay for such perks after the trial expires.
Solid game
Overall, the experience of playing Titans is an excellent one. The design of the pieces is still great considering what year it was made. Playing on the engine feels almost lifelike, and the AI is well made to pose the right challenge. Overall, it's a good idea to pick up this version of the age-old strategy games, as it can still be downloaded for Windows 8 and 10.
