Forge of Empires (FoE) is a popular game for Android devices. In this free, turn-based strategy game, you build an empire and journey through the ages. The objective is to create and lead a city from the Stone Age throughout the centuries and become the mightiest emperor of all time. It has familiar elements akin to TV Empire Tycoon.
Free play with options
FoE is free to download and to play. The in-game currency, Diamonds, can be bought for real money. But if you prefer, you can still progress at a reasonable pace by strategising your way forward without spending any money.
Game mode options
Forge of Empires has two modes: single player and multiplayer. In the former mode, you’re up against the game’s AI, facing single-player campaigns.
In multiplayer mode—also known as Player versus Player (PvP)—you pitting your strategic wits against real people.
One of the biggest challenges in PvP mode is that after a battle, the defender's army is reset, but the attacker’s army isn’t. This means there’s a heavy price to pay if you lose a fight that you started.
Increase your power and influence
There’s more to building and maintaining an empire than just winning battles. You always need the population on your side, and the best ways to do it is through shrewd city management, research-driven innovation and outstanding military leadership.
What’s Auto Battle?
Letting the AI take over doesn’t guarantee success. Even the AI can only devise a strategy based on the resources at your command. Therefore, if your game ranking is low, you’re more likely to lose with Auto Battle enabled. As the developers at InnoGames said when they launched the feature in 2017, Auto Battle is most effective if you’re sure that you’ll win battles even before they’ve started.
To reap the benefits of Auto Battle, you need to have considerable resources already. That will give the AI plenty to work with its decision-making. If you do end up losing, it won’t be as devastating as it would be for a lower-ranked player.
Is FoE any good?
Yes, there are plenty of strategic options, whether you're planning civil or military activities. The actions resulting from your decisions, such as building or researching, don’t go on too long, so you’re not waiting forever for it to complete. The game is even straight straightforward for beginners and is easy to become absorbed into the Forge of Empires world.
