Free online daily word game

Wordle is a free online game that gives you a new puzzle to tackle every day. It has the same concept as the classic Hangman word-guessing game but without dramatic imagery. Instead, you're simply faced with a grid that contains the letters you guess.
Another refreshing aspect of Wordle is the fact that there are no ads. Additionally, there aren’t any signups or pop-ups. You could call this an ultra-casual game. If you enjoy cerebral games for killing some time, then it's also worth checking out Scramble Words and Daily Word Search.
Where can I play Wordle?
The wonderful thing about Wordle is that you can play it anywhere you have an internet connection, on any device.
There's no app to install, so it doesn't take any additional space in your device's memory. Having said that, if you prefer apps, some desktop browsers allow you to install a web page as an app.
How often can I play?
Wordle can be played once a day. If you're someone who has a habit of becoming a little too invested in a game, there's no risk of this with Wordle.
How to play
You have six attempts to guess the five-letter word that’s randomly selected from a database. There's a keyboard below the grid which you use to spell out your guess before hitting enter to see how you've done.
The only help you get is when any of the letters you've entered change colour. Letters you correctly guess change to orange or green. Green means that you've got the right letter in the right place in the word. Orange means you've guessed the letter correctly, but you’ve put it in the wrong place.
Accessibility
For such a simple free game, an impressive amount of thought has gone into making it accessible. You can find the two options by clicking on the cog icon (settings) at the top right of the letter grid.
There's a mode that puts the web page into high contrast, making it more accessible for players with colour blindness. There's also dark mode that makes it easier on your eyes if you're playing in low lighting conditions. Both settings are simple on-off toggles.
Our take
For us, the two big pros for Wordle are its simplicity and accessibility. It's obviously a labour of love for the developer since there aren’t any ads. If you're looking for a game to pick up for just a few minutes, Wordle is undemanding and a whole lot of fun.
