SaveHollywood

SaveHollywood is a Screen Saver module for OS X 10.8 or later. It’s a neat little utility that lets you play movies when your Mac enters screen saver mode. With SaveHollywood you can use your favourite movie as your screensaver, or your can use marketing or promotional material instead. SaveHollywood lets you add and configure your own videos, including Flash, QuickTime and some other formats, that can be used as a screensaver. It can also be used as workaround solution to watch QuickTime videos in fullscreen! Installation is easy and takes a few seconds. As soon as it is installed you can access the app via the Mac system preferences menu. It embeds itself into the Mac user interface and has a few configurable features and settings for you to tinker around with; for instance, you can set up which movies to play and you can choose to create a playlist, which can be looped or shuffled. Overall, SaveHollywood is a very cool idea, which is a clever take on the standard Screen Saver module. QuickTime Player for Mac

QuickTime Player for Mac, allows the playback of QuickTime movie files (.mov) and lots of other file formats including, audio, still images and graphic files. QuickTime Player for Mac not only delivers crisp quality, but the app is easy to use with a simple interface. Key Features Include*: Playback of older media formats such as QTVR. Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.8

Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is an upgrade to the previous version of OS X Leopard. This update does not have stacks of new features, rather overall improvements and efficiency upgrades. This version of Apple's OS also has a reduced footprint. Key features include: Slimmer QuickTime Player: QuickTime X features a simplified GUI with a greater focus on codec support. Cocoa Based Finder: Finder has a new Cocoa Desktop Window and Contextual Menu. Safari Beta 4 Default Browser: Apple included a beta version of Safari 4 with Snow Leopard. VLC Media Player is the most popular and robust multi format, free media player available. WhatsApp Messenger for Mac

WhatsApp for Mac is a renowned messaging service that has been around for some time now. Although you can use it on the web, WhatsApp for Mac has launched a desktop app for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms. This new desktop version of the app will be great for some users, as it no longer needs to take up space in your web browser. The new app basically works as an extension of your phone; it mirrors messages and conversations from your device. Using the desktop version of the app comes with advantages including proper native desktop notifications and better keyboard shortcuts. You simply need WhatsApp installed and working on your phone and Mac OS X 10.9 or later. Using the desktop version on your Mac is easy; as soon as you have downloaded and installed the app, you simply need to scan the QR code on the screen with your phone using WhatsApp (Open WhatsApp, click Menu and select WhatsApp Web). Then, as soon as it has been recognised, the desktop app will be linked with your account. It is worth noting that since the desktop app uses your mobile device to sync messages, it would probably be best to ensure that it is connected to Wi-Fi to avoid excessive data usage. Parallels for Mac

Parallels allows Apple users to run Windows on a Mac OS X computer. The software creates a Windows virtual machine that is able to run alongside the native operating system. Whilst Apple's Bootcamp app creates a bootable copy of Windows. Parallels is different in that it runs Windows within an environment on OS X. If you need it, Windows can be run in its own window, in full screen mode, or in an integrated view called Coherence. Coherence allows Mac and Windows apps to be used side by side. Key features include: Ultimate flexibility. Retina display support. Connect devices. One-click performance tuning. Office 365 integration. Save disc space. Travel mode. Works with Boot Camp. Parallels can modify the standard Mac OS X interface, and adds a new window control button for any VMs. Along with the existing buttons that close and minimise windows, Parallels has a new button, which allows you to switch a VM into Coherence mode, thereby hiding the Windows desktop. This then allows any Windows apps to seamlessly sit right on the Mac OS desktop. A great feature of Parallels that is worth noting, is when you run Windows 10 in Coherence mode, the Windows Action Centre is able to be viewed as a panel, which slides in from the right-hand side of the screen, next to the Notification panel in Mac OS X. Overall, Parallels is not the only virtualization option that is available for Mac OS X users who need to run Windows apps. It is, however, more of a polished product than the other products. The close integration of both Windows OS and Mac OS provides users the best of both worlds. You can switch easily between apps, regardless of which operating system they were written for, especially using Coherence.
