Over the top back-flipping arcade racing
Mad Skills Motocross is a 2D racing and stunt game that brings 80s style bike action to your Mac. This demo introduces you to the action with ten levels, teaching you the basics and letting you complete some of the short races. The graphics are simple, but clean and attractive, and the riders have a kind of rag-doll physics when they are hurled off their bikes.
Controls are really simple - use the cursor keys to accelerate and brake, and balance. It's a simple system that works well, and gives you a surprising amount of subtlety. It's not very difficult, and completing the demo shouldn't take you too long. Once you have, while there's quite a lot of replay fun to be had, it's spoiled by one of the most intrusive nag screens you'll see. This pops up even mid game, takes 30 seconds or so, and then returns you to the main menu.
Last year's Trials 2 was a much better update of this old motocross format, but Mad Skills Motocross is still fun, as it's solidly built, and the physics are well done.
Mad Skills Motocross is an enjoyable piece of old school arcade motorbike action.
