Horror simplified in myth
Slender: The Eight Pages is a game that takes the mythos of the eerily disjointed and blurred Slenderman, and turns it into a horror game. The player must find the sheets of paper before they look at the slender man too long and die.
Slender takes you through the woods as you search for the pages. The only item you have is a flashlight. Unlike many horror games, there are no other items for you to use. It falls to the mystery of the place to keep you in the game.
Gameplay
The controls are quite simple. You have two speeds: walk and run. However, the more you run, the more your stamina goes down. It takes time to recover. You click to turn on your flashlight. Overall, the game does not have strong replayability. It also lacks a multiplayer mode.
New elements
The new update added a few changes to make the game better, including improving the main menu while also adding music. The creators played around with the stamina to increase the difficulty of running away while still allowing you the possibility to escape the Slenderman.
New light sources and shadows were added for when you beat the game once to increase playability. Also, once you download the game, you will have to unzip it to install now.
Alternatives
Arrival is the second creation in the series, but it is the prequel to Slender. It has a focused story while retaining the simplicity of the basic elements. The pacing is better, but it has high demands on the computer system and costs money.
Blair Witch follows a similar pattern of wandering around the woods, but it takes a completely different turn. However, it keeps much of the simplicity. Unfortunately, Blair Witch is bug-ridden, unlike the other options.
Raw Horror
Slender remains basic, not trying to invent anything new. However, while the player will never learn what the eight pages do as they are a tool to keep you moving in this version, the drive to collect them builds real tension. Slender is great for those who love horror.
