Free block puzzle game
Marbles Squared is a free block removal puzzle game for Windows. You're presented with a wall of squares and tasked to remove as many as you can in each turn. You score more points by removing a larger number of squares in a single turn. The catch is that you have a limited number of moves to achieve the highest possible score.
If you manage to clear a whole board, it's replaced with a fresh one where you score bonus points. There's also a worldwide leader board so you can keep aiming for the top. If you like colourful puzzle games like this, then another great option is Zuma.
Not just for the spectrum
Marbles Squared started out as a Palm Pilot game which then got adapted for the ZX Spectrum. Now, developer Rem has created this version for Windows.
Game controls
To play the game, you have the control options that give you the best of all eras. You can go old-school with a keyboard or controller, or you can use your mouse.
Get creative
Marbles Squared gives you the option to customise the game tiles. All you have to do is create your theme and add the file to the Marbles Squared directory. Rem gives you all the tools you need to bring your personal touch to the game.
Don't live with your mistakes
In Marbles Squared, you get infinite undos. In some games, you're only allowed to backtrack a certain number of moves. Here, you can undo your moves all the way back to the beginning of the game, one step at a time.
Our take
If you like the classic visual experience of the ZX Spectrum but don't have one, Marbles Squared for Windows gives you the best of both worlds.
In this game, strategy is what will help you reach the top of the score charts. The standard design of the squares is just black and white, and we love that you can customise the tiles and inject the colours you want into the game. Marble squared is a free and safe download, so there's no reason not to give this addictive game a try.
