A Game Review of Joestar Struck
Joestar Struck, or Joestar Ultra is the latest game in the Joitsu series. It takes place in an alternate universe where the main characters from the original game (including the sultry beach bunny girl, Yuuka) have become high school students. As you might expect, things are a little weird in this version of the Joitsuverse. If you enjoy your old PCV games and love the stylish visual novel style of adventure gaming, then I definitely recommend giving this one a go!
As you can probably imagine, the visual novel game takes place in an alternate world in which many of the classic Joitsu characters from the original series have progressed to adulthood. That means that you get to play as various members of the cast as well. Joestar Struck takes the cute route of dressing up the main character with cool outfits while still retaining the down-to-earth feel of classic Joitsu. As you move through the various stages, you'll run into a wide variety of challenges, from solving mystery scenarios and solving murders to taking on other more challenging mini-games and finally trying to complete the game.
Unlike a lot of visual novel otomes, in this game the storyline is actually very well written and maintained, even if the story starts out a little strange (it is easy to forget things when you're trying to read your text on a small window). One of the best parts of the whole game is actually the mini-games; they're relatively small, fun mini-games that help you enjoy the scenery and experience some of the story's elements. While there were definitely some minor problems with the storyline, overall the visual novel definitely grew on me. I would recommend this game to people who like visual novels but aren't too into the fighting and action that most of them have.
