PryEngine 2D
PryEngine 2D is essentially a free programme which allows gaming fans to create their own 2D videogames for Windows. Once you have constructed your 2D world you can release the game under free or commercial licenses. Whether you want to include spaceships, mazes or even talking characters and wandering creatures, you can do so with PryEngine 2D. The programme enables to user to create players and Bots characters of any size, which can be controlled simultaneously. It also supports motion animations of characters in as many as eight differing directions. Key features include: Player can control multiple characters at the same time Application supports 32 and 64 bits Available in English or Spanish Motion animations of characters in eight directions Inventory of objects Game maps of up to 128x128 tiles Free to use and release games (Under free or commercial license) Elements of the game map in seven layers The programme also boasts a large inventory of usable objects and game maps can be made with tiles of 64x64 pixels or with background images. Game maps can be made up to 128x128 tiles and a smooth scroll map can allow the user to navigate in eight directions. It has a player interface in English or Spanish and the elements of the game map come in seven layers. The author of the engine has also been upfront with some of the limitations presented. It does not have online support, only has two types of weapons for players and supports just one map per game. Although it allows jumping to other areas of the map it doesn’t allow jumping to another map or level. Also it doesn’t allow the creation of graphics, sounds or music. Overall – and with the limitations in mind – PryEngine 2D still provides a free and effective platform for game design. Screenshots and demos prove how classic 2D video games can be made through the programme. It is sure to attract keen interest from those within the gaming community.
