Free photo editing app
Xingtu is a free photo editing app for Android. Its primary purpose is to beautify the subjects of your photographs before posting them to social media. Like many photo editing apps, Xingtu offers basic editing tools and more advanced features to change things like the shape of body parts and facial features.
However, we were surprised to find that the app is currently only available in Chinese. There are no in-app purchases with Xingtu, so you have full access to a vast array of filters and other editing tools, as long as you can read Chinese. For English speakers, BeautyPlus and Photoshop Touch are excellent alternatives that have similar functions.
Xingtu is a free photo editing app from Chinese developer Beijing Yanxuan Technology. Unlike most free photo editing apps, Xingtu provides hundreds of filters rather than offering a few and making you pay to unlock the rest.
What is Xingtu?
Is Xingtu free?
Yes, it’s completely free, and there are no in-app purchases.
Is Xingtu safe?
Xingtu isn’t available in the Google Play store, so it’s not available as a standard Android application. Instead, you’ll have to download the APK (Android package kit) from the developer’s website or other reliable sources.
Although you’re not downloading it from a curated source, it is perfectly safe. However, if your Android device’s security program flags it as a threat, it’s best to heed that warning and find an alternative app such as Photoshop Touch.
How can I get rid of Xingtu?
You can remove Xingtu from your device in the same way as you would any other app.
- Find Xingtu in the apps list, and long press on it
- Select ‘Uninstall’
- If you have a launcher that locks your home screen preventing accidental changes to the layout, unlock it when prompted
- Once again, long press on the Xingtu app and select ‘Uninstall’
- Your device will double-check that you want to remove the app, click ‘OK’
Challenging to use
Unfortunately, when we installed Xingtu on our test device, we found that the app was only available in Chinese, so we couldn’t test it. The source website is poorly translated in English, which should have been an indicator.
This is disappointing because we were looking forward to testing the stand-out features such as body and feature shaping. We didn’t have any security issues during installation, so if you can read Chinese, try it out.
