DigiCamControl is a free, fully-functional software that gives you complete control over popular Nikon digital cameras from your Windows PC using any modern Internet-connected computer. It allows you to use multiple cameras with the camera interface on your Windows PC and remotely control all cameras, regardless of where they are plugged in. It also provides you with remote control capabilities over multiple cameras and displays them on the screen of your PC, and even provides you with playback control of the video stream. It also offers you real time recording control of your videos from all cameras attached to your PC by means of an inexpensive IR remote control. It even provides you with camera remote access on the internet via a variety of web services. In addition, it can be used as a Windows Live Tile.
The major advantages of digiCamControl for Windows are: it lets you alter the camera settings remotely; it allows you to remotely control the camera's exposure and aperture; it has the ability to capture digital images with different filters such as sepia, gray-scale and high-tones; it has the capability to alter the white balance settings remotely; and, it allows you to preview the video shot with different settings including zoom and other optical zoom features. On the downside, digiCAM_Control does not have the Windows logo. Some people might find it difficult to change the settings if they are new users since the interface is quite complex. Also, it uses the Windows registry extensively. Other drawbacks are: the interface could be made more accessible and more user-friendly, but the software lacks certain advanced functions like screen-capturing, and some users may find it difficult to manually adjust the exposure values of the digital camera.
Some advanced functions like screen-capturing are available in some other cameras. However, digiCAM_Control does not have a screen-capture option. Some people might find its interface too complicated and it lacks some advanced features. But, it is considered to be an affordable option for an average consumer.
