Get in the Car, Loser! is available for free on Mac. Developed by Love Conquers All Games, it's about fighting for love and justice in the face of adversity. The racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic disciples of the Machine Devil is preparing for the evil one's return by spreading hate and fear.
When the Divine Order, our world's ruling power, decides that fighting against them would make us just as bad, an Angel that's rebelled from the Divine Order and three students at the Academy unite to fight the evil. If you are looking for other similar games, Kill The Dragon and Undertale are great options.
Character skills
The main protagonists of the story are all eminently relatable. Regardless of their self-doubts and perceived weaknesses, they each bring unique qualities to the collective.
Sam, Grace, Valentin, and Angela combine their respective battle specialities in the fight to keep the Machine Devil away using the legendary Sword of Fate wielded by Grace. As always, character skills are a crucial factor if they are correctly utilised.
The enemy
The Machine Devil was imprisoned a thousand years ago by the great hero Agi of Roses.
Now, the evil edgelords have formed a cult to summon the Machine Devil back to our world. by spreading terror, chaos, and fear across the world, they hope it will empower him to break free from his prison and take over the earth.
Equipment
The mechanism for allocating equipment to the characters is extremely flexible. Instead of simply equipping a character with a particular item, the effectiveness of every item depends upon their inherent strengths and weaknesses.
You can also equip and reallocate equipment between characters between fights, which affects how the combat unfolds.
Active Time Battle (ATB) system
The Active Time Battle (ATB) system has been used to great effect in many top games, most notably Final Fantasy. Instead of attacks during battles being turn-based, ATB enables you to fight more strategically and make the most of each character's strengths.
Fight evil
Get in the Car, Loser! is, in essence, a gay road trip to fight an ancient evil. However, the developer hasn't just dropped in shallow lesbian characters to appear socially aware. For video game characters, they are very well-rounded and engaging.
We particularly like the use of ATB, which makes fight segments more dynamic. The slightly subversive sense of humour and some strong language means that the game is only suitable for adults.
