PlayStation emulator for Windows 10

Connor McLaughlin developed DuckStation. It is a free download compatible only with Windows 10. Use it as an emulator for an authentic PlayStation gaming experience on your PC. However, beware that emulators are heavy on computer resources.

With this software, you can play your favourite PlayStation games on your Windows computer. It requires a BIOS ROM Image as the developers can’t include it in the emulator package. You can also try are PCSX2 and PSSPP.

Download, install, and setup

Download the zip file for the Windows x64 builds to a location of your choice. Extract the files to a subdirectory and launch DuckStation from the exe file. Copy one or more PlayStation BIOS images to the bios subdirectory. Or use portable mode to save it to the documents directory.

With the Qt frontend, you need to add the directories with the BIOS images by clicking ‘Setting’ and then ‘add game directory'. Your last step is to select a game from the list or to open a disc image file. Now you are ready to play.

DuckStation features

When using DuckStation, you will enjoy upscaling, text filtering, and 24-bit actual colour. It supports the direct downloading of portable sound format (PSF) files and supports image files such as bin/cue images, raw bin/img files, and MAME CHD formats. It let you use analogue or digital controllers for input and content scanning for game titles. It allows hardware and software rendering and has an adaptive downsampling filter.

Use ‘fast boot’ to skip the BIOS intro and Qt and NoGui frontends for the desktop. The software updates by itself, and switching memory cards for different games is optional. It emulates CPU overclocking and has integrated as well as remote debugging. DuckStation also supports multitap controllers for up to eight devices

You get Namco GunCon lightgun support through mouse simulation, as well as NeGcon support. It lets you load cheats from Libretro and PCSXR format lists, and it can load and apply PPF patches

Challenging for beginners

DuckStation makes it possible for you to play your PlayStation games on your Windows 10 computer. Besides the installation file, you also need a BIOS ROM Image to play your PlayStation games. It offers a variety of configuration options, but these options can be a challenge for beginners.
