Age of Mythology is an online strategy computer game developed by Ensemble Studios Inc. It was launched on October 30th, 2021 in North America exclusively for the PC. The game is inspired by ancient Greek Mythology and was created by game designer Sid Morehouse. The game has received generally positive reviews from critics and gamers. The game presents a unique take on classic mythology with a modern story all its own.
Age of Mythology follows the tale of three different families of gods: the Hyperboreans, the pantheons and the NA's. Each family struggles to keep their place in the pantheon while battling each other for control of the hidden realms that permeate Mythology. The gameplay is turn-based, where you command one of the many classes in the game. The game is heavily story-based as well, told through narrative quests and journal entries dictated by your character. The overall concept of the game is to play as one of the many gods of myth, while battling other players in battles that pit your wits against those of other characters in the game.
Age of Mythology features a unique real-time combat system unlike any other computer role-playing games. In this game you can select individual gods to control one of your character's platoons. You can also use these units to fight other players or larger bosses that must be defeated on your turn before your turn is complete. If multiple characters are in a group, each unit has an attack that can be performed to attack multiple opponents or single enemies and if these units are supported by terrain units the damage can be even greater. The developers have wisely included a strong emphasis on using terrain to their characters' advantage in this game, making battles more dynamic and allowing the developers to include many dynamic battlefield elements such as traps and obstacles to bring more fun into the game.
