Initially developed and offered by Autodesk, Sketchbook is now owned and provided by its namesake Sketchbook, Inc. It’s a drawing and painting app for creative enthusiasts of all levels. The app is available for free on the Google Play store and is compatible with devices running Android 5.0 or above.
Designed for both the creative professionals who draw consistently and novice enthusiasts, SketchBook intends to make the digital drawing experience very close to the natural process. The app has highly customisable tools, a professional feature set and an exquisite interface, all of which combine to provide a realistic sketching experience. Alternatives include Sketchbook Pro, Pencil Sketch and Sketchable.
Customisable brushes and tools
Customisable brushes allow you to create the look you desire. The app provides you with hundreds of different brush types, from thin pencil markers, thick-inked pens and airbrushes to smears that have the same tactile feel as their actual counterparts.
You can combine stylistic freedom with precision in your drawings using guides, rulers, stroke tools, curved rulers, ellipse and French curve tools. Additionally, the predictive stroke tool is also there to help you create perfectly smooth strokes. These are all available to assist you in creating your ideal drawing.
Flexibility, symmetry and naturalness
Layers, colour fill tools and blend modes provide flexibility to stack up and discover the right colour. Create a dynamic symmetry in your artwork using vertical, horizontal and radial symmetry tools to capture and mirror your pen strokes easily.
Like drawing on paper, Sketchbook is incredibly sensitive to a stylus, so the experience seems natural. Sketchbook faithfully represents every stroke with pressure and tilt as you draw with your hand so you can see the matching depth and directionality.
Focus on drawing
SketchBook is a long-established drawing app with an intuitive, streamlined interface. You can push aside toolbars and palettes until you need them again to keep your screen and focus on the drawing process. This allows all painters, whether beginners or pros, to effortlessly put their ideas onto a canvas and witness them come to life with only a few strokes.
The app requires 95 MB of space on your device for installation. Regular updates add to your available tools and paid subscriptions give you more freedom.
