Over the Hedge Game Review
Over the Hedge is a video game based on the successful movie of the same name, also published by Activision. The game has been released on Windows and the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, GameCube, and Nintendo DS, along with a second handheld edition for the Nintendo DS. Like its predecessor, Over the Hedge follows the story of hedge fund manager Bob Hoskins (ulentious), who lives a life of opulence while saving unfortunate animals in his care. His less-than-ethical partner, Valentine (apist), provides him with funds to do so, while trying to hide his illegal dealings from his better-half, Evelyn. As in the real world, however, greed eventually gets the better of Bob and Valentine, and the government launches a full-blown investigation to uncover the truth about Bob's activities.
Based on the animated film of the same title, the game is visually stunning and features hand-painted, cartoon-style art and effects. The storyline is largely the same but only differs in the ending. In the second half of the game, Bob finds himself unwittingly involved in the rescue of an animal owned by Valentine, who is herself being held hostage by a group of terrorists. The release of the animal causes a chain of events that leaves both Bob and Valentine desperately need more money to pay off their debts. The third part of the game sees the involvement of the American government in uncovering the plot; this part ties up the "Hazard" subplot, which involves unethical business practices run by Valentine (voice of Michael Caine).
In late 2021, Over the Hedge became available for purchase via the distribution service Playpark, as well as through various online gaming portals. The game can be purchased separately, or you may choose to purchase Over the Hedge as part of a bigger package, such as the Ultimate Pack, or Season Pass. Each purchase comes with a variety of extras, including an "over 20" level cap, a "full" avatar, four unique powerups, two special cars, a custom theme park, four themed characters for airdrop, launch, landing, and a flying vehicle. A " collector's item pack" is also included, which allows you to add additional characters, power ups, vehicles, plants, buildings, challenge courses, and unlockable challenges to your game.
