Florrae is a free adventure game for Windows from Meltingparrot. This team has developed an excellent, relaxing exploration game that reminds you of Minecraft and Terraria without needing to deal with survival and enemies.

You navigate a beautiful procedurally-generated world and interact with its denizens, each with its quirks. While there’s an interesting game to be found here, at the time of this writing this software is a prototype. This is exciting since more features may come with later updates. There’s no end objective here, it’s simply a beautiful, relaxed way of exploring nature in its many forms.

Expansive world to explore

Florrae’s premise is simple: navigate the world - presumably named Florrae - and meet other Florrae Spirits along the way.Interacting with them yields additional features, such as unlocking new pieces of nature.

There are five unique biomes, each with special features, such as tropical beaches, snowy mountains, and a night-day cycle. Since the game is procedurally-generated, each playthrough will be different. You decide your direction and let the game show you new locales and present new interactions.

Just like Minecraft has its blocks, Florrae has hexagons. This is what the world is made from, right down to the hexagonal floor tiles.

Amazing art and graphics

The art here is simply beautiful. The playing character is charming, nature is exuberant, and it all feels magical. You have a very limited field of view because the world unfolds aroundyou, with a radius of  just a few hexagons, but even that doesn’t take the magic away.

A must for relaxed gaming sessions

As a prototype, Florrae has a lot to offer. It’s an enthralling game, in no small part thanks to its fantastic art. But there’s also a lot of value in the gaming part: sometimes, games without enemies or difficulties get boring really quickly.

This isn’t the case with Florrae since the thrill of discovering a vast world and characters is enticing enough to keep you playing. However, the game’s strength is also its weakness: If you expect to be challenged, this game probably won’t appeal. Otherwise,it has the ability to keep you entertained for hours on end.
