Android-x86 is an Open Source project to port Android to the x86 platform. It was formerly known as 'patch hosting for android x86 support'. The original plan was for the developers to host different patches for android x86 support, but they moved on to creating a code base to provide support on different x86 platforms.

Android-x86 can be installed onto hard disks with the following file systems: EXT3, EXT2, NTFS and FAT32. You can even install Android-x86 to an NTFS filesystem to co-exist with Windows.

Overall, Android-x86 has been refined over the years to produce a quality environment. However, although polished, it still lacks stability and reliability. If you want to have all of your Google applications and settings on the same foothold across all of your devices, then you may be disappointed, as it isn't happening just yet.
