A powerful desktop publishing tool, Sigil has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times. Unlike other desktop publishing products, Sigil was created as an open source e-book publishing program and is free to download. Like many other e-books, Sigil features an Adobe-designed format (.Epub) that allows the publisher to create a file of any size and with any subject matter. The format comes in several formats, including PPT, PDF, HTML, and MOBI. Many other formats are also available, but the choice depends on the needs of the buyer.
Sigil, like many other e-books, is written in an ePub format that can be read by almost any web browser. This includes both the iPhone and iPad. The authoring tools in Sigil allow the user to create, manage, publish and edit images as well as documents. As a cross-browser application, Sigil runs on the Windows, Linux, and MAC platforms under the GNU public license. The user can create and edit files in the English or Arabic languages.
All Windows computers, Linux machines, and even MACs can use the Windows version of sight. It has been designed so that it works seamlessly with most Microsoft Office programs. A book about creating or editing Sigil books called Windows Ink allows users to see some of the capabilities of this outstanding publishing tool. The book is divided into chapters that contain chapters of text and chapters of the generated table of contents. All chapters are printed in landscape orientation and are easily navigable. Pages of the generated book are also printed in landscape orientation, just as the paper size in the Microsoft Word application.
