PosteRazor is an open-source application designed to create large posters from raster images. It works by dividing a single image into multiple printable pages that can be assembled into a larger poster. The finished layout is exported as a multi-page PDF document. PosteRazor uses a wizard-style interface that guides users through five steps of the poster creation process. Users begin by selecting an input image, then configure the printer page layout, poster size, and tile overlap.

Poster size can be defined in several ways: by specifying the final dimensions, choosing the number of pages to use, or scaling the original image by percentage. Adjustable overlap between pages helps make cutting and assembling printed sheets easier. Once the setup is complete, the program generates a multi-page PDF ready for printing.

Image compatibility and layout options

PosteRazor supports a wide range of raster image formats through the FreeImage library, including commonly used formats such as BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and PSD. After selecting an image, users can configure the page layout for printing. The program allows page size and orientation to be set manually or selected from predefined formats such as DIN A4, DIN A3, Letter, Legal, and Tabloid. To accommodate different measurement systems, PosteRazor supports several dimension units, including millimeters, centimeters, meters, inches, feet, and points.

Limited editing and format support

PosteRazor focuses specifically on poster tiling rather than full image editing. Because of this, the program does not include built-in tools for modifying images, so files typically need to be prepared in another application before being imported.

The software also omits some additional print-related features. These include cut lines for trimming, support for JPEG-CMYK images and 16-bit grayscale images, and embedding ICC color profiles in the generated PDF output.
