Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Review
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (also known as Jazz Jack Rabbit: The Second Chase) is a follow up to the hit PC game Jazz Jackrabbit. In this game, a new crimefighting jaguar is hired to take out a newly formed crime syndicate. If you remember, in the first game Jack rabbits were shrunk thanks to some magic and become small enough to fit into a human's pocket. This time around things are a bit different, because the jaguar is now considerably bigger and more powerful.
Like its predecessor, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has four different levels, all beautifully designed and filled with a variety of enemies and power-ups which have positive and negative effects on the game's overall play. The basic game involves finding the right type of object within a level to blast your way through to the next one, defeating the various mini-bosses along the way and unlocking the main villain, the boss, for attack. The power-ups used to allow you to transform yourself from one animal to another, enabling you to overcome certain obstacles or weapons used against you. For example, one of your primary weapons in the game can be transformed into a machine gun, which you can fire accurately at the numerous enemies flying through the air.
However, although you can buy several power-ups, it isn't necessary to do so - there are plenty of items within each level that are only available by collecting items that fall from the sky or by simply killing enemies. The item collectibles are rewarded when you complete a level, providing extra bonus points and making the gameplay all the more challenging. Although the first game had similar power-ups, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 features an array of new items which are not seen in the first game: power-ups are split into several categories, with the most common ones being fire and water. These help you stay out of harm when combating the numerous enemies that appear throughout every level.
